Drawing on the Wittgensteinian concept of language-games, the article demonstrates and discusses such variations as they are expressed in different inter-ethnic contexts in Trinidad and Mauritius. Although international students may feel overtaxed at times, their prior experience and capacity to learn and to navigate new cultural contexts can be. Thus, variations in the significance of cultural differences in otherwise comparable inter-ethnic situations must be understood comparatively. This approach is endorsed here, but is argued that it is also necessary to understand variations in the forms of cultural difference communicated through ethnicity. that, by comparison with western cultural contexts, concern for justifying the learning of physics and making it more likely that students will chose to. Discarding simplistic conceptions of `cultures' as bounded entities for research, recent social anthropological studies have described ethnicity as those aspects of social relationships and processes in which cultural difference is communicated. In this article I propose a model that posits three major sources of influence on behavior-basic human nature (via universal psychological processes), culture (via social roles), and personality (via individual role identities) and argue that individual behaviors are the products of the interaction between the three.
